Adventure Based Personal-Development
Indigenous personal development through martial arts
IndigeNinja is a personal development program that focuses on Indigenous Australians. Our aim is to show participants how to unleash their personal potential through the study of the martial arts. Participants are challenged to examine their own styles of personal leadership, conflict resolution and teamwork. They are introduced to the godai or nature’s elements of – earth – water – wind – fire, and through this framework they learn that simply reacting to life’s challenges is not the only option. The benefits that flow from studying even a small aspect of martial arts can help take control of your circumstances rather than the other way around.

Why Ninjutsu ?
Today the ninja are cool and the word is commonly used all over the world. But the ninja of old Japan actually had a lot in common with indigenous people.
- Little known fact – Ninja were families and clans of largely indigenous people who lived in harmony with nature and the elements.
- Ninja families and clans had to become experts at surviving the efforts of larger, better equipped imperial forces that wanted to take over their traditional lands and waters.
- The Ninja developed strategies for overcoming challenges and threats to the survival of their way of life. They made sure that these secrets were passed down through the generations and now we are able to use them today to develop and enhance personal leadership skills to overcome the challenges of modern everyday living and working.
Ninjutsu – is the way of enduring … to persevere in order to overcome. It incorporates all of the above and it also includes a focus on doing what must be done in order to achieve our goals and overcome adversity. The methods and teachings passed on by the ninja clans are available to us today and have special relevance for indigenous people in a contemporary setting.
In the IndigeNinja program we help participants call on the strength of their own traditions, by learning from the traditions of another culture.
